T + 56 Follow-up

The weekend was a bit hectic. Annette's nausea was still an issue and the needle that stays in her port popped out. That required a trip back to Emory on Sunday so they could reactivate it. Monday was our hospital discharge follow-up and they had to reactivate the port a second time because they were unable to draw blood from it. We're trying a new combination of current drugs to control the nausea - that seemed to work Monday afternoon - so we'll see.

While in the hospital we found out the Cytomegalovirus (CMV) was starting to show up. This is a virus that most people over 40 have as an adult. It is kept in check by their immune system, but Annette is given immunosuppressants to prevent rejection so they keep an eye out for it.  They started her on a new anti-viral medication to suppress it.

She hasn't been near her grandson since the transplant because of the risks of catching something from him. Now he has to stay away from her because of the risk of catching CMV from her. At least John has been great at keeping her updated on Facetime.
